hello (:
SYF '09 is over, just like that. I woke up this morning thinking "omg, was it syf yesterday?" and felt a sudden wave of nostalgia hit me. So I lay in bed, trying to recall whatever happened yesterday, and i realised that I couldn't remember much about the performance. I couldn't remember having played H and I and J for overture, nor do i remember very well how I played the first page of hymn. I could only remember them evoking a lot of feelings in me, being the best hymn and overture ever and most vividly, the pre-syf journey. Do you remember how we came back for many many lunch pracs, the band runs to improve our air [i think they actually helped quite a bit O:], how one person would play any random bar of hymn/overture and the rest of the band would play together too, with everyone knowing exactly which bar you're playing? It's magical, isn't it?
The point of syf isn't the medals, it's how we express ourselves to the audience and what we learnt from the syf journey that counts. Somehow along the way we might have forgotten that, but ultimately we did realise the true meaning of syf and we were proud of ourselves for having touched the audience, our seniors and ms chong. We showed the world the power of nycb and although the judges didn't really like our playing, the rest of the audience did! And we're proud of that aren't we :D
We understand ourselves better than 7 strangers who have only heard us play for 10 minutes. Of course they can tell our standard to a certain extent but only we ourselves know the true magnitude of the effort and emotions we put into syf. The medal they gave us is just an indication of where professionals think our standard is, and music is hard to judge anyway. Music is a form of expression, and different people express themselves differently. Music is subjective and unlike math or science, there is no clear cut "right or wrong answer."
I think we really grew :D ultimately we accepted the silver graciously and that itself shows we have matured :D Like tabby said, hold your heads high and walk with pride. It is only when we are able to be proud of ourselves, pick ourselves up and walk with our heads high that we are able to see the infinite sky above and aim for greater heights. So I think we really did great :D.
Thank you very very much to all of you my dear sectionmates ♥ We did great omg A sounded nice :D Thank you for leaving me with a great syf memory (: We know we are The Platinum mightygroovysexy NYCB :D
